Life on campus

Student Council

The International University in Geneva has a strong student council active in areas such as social activities, community service and advocacy. Weekly meetings are held to resolve student issues and to recommend and implement changes to the current student environment. Specific activities include preparing the annual yearbook, community service events with the United Nations and UNICEF, and cultural excursions in Switzerland and beyond.

Letter from the Student Council President

Dear Current and Prospective Students,

IUG students formed the Student Council (SC) in order to have a say in our University’s affairs. The SC serves as the fundamental entity through which students may transfer their concerns, proposals, and interests directly to the faculty and the administration of our University. The SC also reviews the curriculum of IUG from a student perspective. This helps us improve and develop our academic milieu and personal endeavors. Furthermore, throughout the academic year, the SC is responsible for implementing charitable campaigns programmed for students to have a direct contribution in regards to aid in the wider community. Finally, the SC also focuses on the planning of social events; these events are a memorable experience that strengthens student life both on and off campus.

The presidential campaign takes place at the beginning of the academic year, and once elected, the SC begins appointing roles within the Council that members shall pursue with due diligence. We are therefore calling for passionate, involved, and reliable students to become part of our SC. Students are strongly encouraged to be part of the Council as it provides an opportunity to produce the change you may want to see at the University. Moreover, it is a rewarding experience for students eager to participate in the continuous improvement for the student body as a whole.

Best regards,

Gabriel Valdes-Browning
(IUG Student Council President 2012-2013)
