Alaa is a research associate at the Centre on Conflict, Development and Peacebuilding (CCDP), and a visiting fellow at the Department of Anthropology and Sociology (ANSO), The Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies (IHEID) in Geneva, Switzerland. He is also a program advisor at Al-Shabaka: The Palestinian Policy Network, and a visiting professor at Sciences Po, Paris School of International Affairs (PSIA). Amongst other positions, Alaa was a post-doctoral fellow at The Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP), a visiting scholar and lecturer at Utrecht University’s Department of History and Art History, The Netherlands, and was a researcher in international development studies at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), where he earned his PhD.
